In 1965, sheriff deputies attacked non-violent civil rights protesters
in Selma, Alabama, sparking nationwide outrage. Now known as Bloody
Sunday, the event was pivotal in the struggle to secure African American
voting rights. To mark the 50th anniversary of the attack, thousands of
supporters, local Selma residents and President Barack Obama poured
into the small Alabama city this past weekend to remember the historic
events
