Kidnapping: Oba of Benin [to] place curses on culprits
The Oba of Benin, Oba Erediawa, worried by the spate of kidnappings, armed robbery and other vices in Benin and other parts of Edo, has directed traditional worshippers to curse those responsible for the crimes.
The traditional worshippers, Enigie, Igie-Ohen, Edionwere and others will gather at Urhokpota Ground in Benin to perform the rituals on June 10 and 12, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
This is just as professional and trade groups as well as residents of the industrial town of Nnewi in Anambra State have asked the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ogbonna Onovo, to transfer all the policemen serving in Anambra State, to put an end to for kidnapping in the state.
A statement from the Oba‘s palace said the monarch had directed that a meeting should be held between the Iyase of Benin Chief Sam Igbe, and traditional worshippers.
The statement, signed by the Information Officer to the Benin Traditional Council, Mr. Robinson Osayamwem, was made available to NAN on Saturday in Benin.
It said that June 10 would be observed as day of prayers for men while June 12 would be for women.
“The monarch also requested that the Enigie, Igie-Ohen, Edionwere, market women and other traditional worshippers, should come with whatever they have to ensure that the evil doers are wiped away, for peace to reign in the state,” it added.
It said that after the state-wide ceremony to be carried out in Benin on Thursday and Saturday, the traditional worshippers were expected to do same in their various domains.
NAN reports that as a result of the resurgence of kidnapping and murder in Benin and other parts of Edo State in recent times, some groups had protested to the Oba’s Palace to complain.

Juju: Fear Grips Kidnappers, Robbers In Edo- Storm Palace For Forgiveness
« on: June 14, 2010, 05:49 AM »
BENIN—FEAR has gripped armed robbers and kidnappers in Edo State, following the curse placed on evil doers in the state, by the Benin monarch, Oba Erediauwa, as Vanguard was reliably informed that hundreds of them have stormed the Palace of the Oba to plead for forgiveness, so as to escape the wrath of the gods.
Meanwhile, thousands of women from the seven local government areas in Edo South Senatorial District of the state, thronged the traditional Urhokpota ground, weekend, to place curses on those involved in the endless cases of kidnappings, armed robberies and other violent crime in the state.
Vanguard learnt that the alleged criminals, who stormed the Palace to ask for forgiveness have been parading the Palace without getting any answer to their problem. They were, however, advised to change from their ways or die.
Vanguard learnt that they were still scared, whether the curse will affect them since they were yet to receive any assurance of forgiveness. Some bankers who leak information to kidnappers about their customers, have also fled the ancient city for the fear of death.
The women in the kingdom, led by Chief Isekhure, followed suit, weekend. The women dressed in red attires, had several ritual materials, which include dogs, fowls, rams which were slaughtered and their blood splashed on the ground, symbolizing death that was expected to visit those behind the robbery and kidnaping activities in the city.
President, Market Women Association of Nigeria, Madam Amalawa Edebiri, explained that the ceremony was to lay curse on the kidnappers and criminals in the state.

Just imagine that these politifcians were sworn in with Juju instead on Bible and Koran, they won’t be looting the way they do.
But Africans don’t have faith in their own method anymore just because the white man asked us to.

By the time they see the sort of “armaments” Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo can muster, they will know that mere scud missiles are in a minor category compared to nuclear tipped ballistic missiles.

Nor be nigeria?,where low profile criminals are naturally dumber than the high profile ones, the politicians. To a rational mind,it is delusion but to a deluded mind,it is a way of life.
Don’t get me wrong,i have always said that juju oath taking will have more psychological impact on the corrupt officials in nigeria than the bible and koran.Since we are relatively a very primitive society, our believe in ancestoral spirit and their instant wraths have a way of binding the society together and ostracizing the evil ones,
I have once asked a question on culture section of how local nigerian farms that are usually located far away from home are protected from hungry thieves without fence, guards or any form of security whatsoever.

I had the privilege of seeing such things first hand in Arondizuogu in Ideato LGA of IMO state in 1996 when my cousin went there to perform the traditional marriage ceremony (Igba nkwu) of his wife who hails from the town.
When we got there, the single most noticeable thing about the town was that houses and compounds had no fences. I was puzzled and inquired about this. The response was that no one dared steal in that town. People basically went to markets and other places with their doors wide open.
I don’t know whether the same thing still happen today in Arondizuogu. But I know it used to happen.

With due respect to Oba of Benin, this is an ‘idle curse’.
This is not year 1510 but 2010. Nobody is born as armed robber, it is a process.

The same ritual was performed in the late 80s. Few weeks later the notorious Lawrence Anini and his gang were felled.
Some people are born with the traits to become an armed robber. So armed robbers can be born.

Edo secret cult leaders promise to end killings
    By Osagie Otabor 28/06/2010 01:30:00
Barely one month after criminals and kidnappers were cursed by traditional worshippers in Benin City, the Edo State capital, secret cult leaders have pledged to stop cult-related killings.
The cult leaders were said to have met with the Benin monarch, Oba Erediauwa, last week where they promised to stop killing of young cult members.
Cult-related killings have claimed many lives in the past.
A source said the cult leaders told the monarch that their resolve to stop killings, especially young ones, was as a result of several meetings among themselves.
The source said the monarch urged the secret cult leaders to end the rampant cult related killings and work towards developing the state.
Oba Erediauwa has hailed the decision of President Goodluck Jonathan to pay military pensioners their entitlements.
He made the commendation while receiving the Head of Service of the Federation, Mr. Steve Oronsanye.
The monarch said the payment of military pensioners attest to the fact that President Jonathan was sensitive to the plight of the people.
He urged Oronsanye to be a good ambassador of the Benins at all levels.
Oronsanye said his visit to the state was the first since he was appointed and promised to do his best at the federal level.
